Whitehorse Council has notified neighbours and us that work on the new wetland will commence shortly:

  • Council is proposing to construct an ephemeral (seasonally wet) wetland and sedimentation basin in Blackburn Creeklands between Waratah Crescent and Laurel Grove North.
  • The ephemeral wetland has been developed in conjunction with Melbourne Water’s Living Rivers program to help improve urban waterway quality for Gardiners Creek. Construction is expected to commence mid April 2020. If you require any further information regarding this project, please contact Council’s Senior Project Engineer, Gwilym Craig on 9262 9274 or engdesign@whitehorse.vic.gov.au

Tree Removals

As the first stage of the project, Council has also notified that some trees need to be removed in order to construct the necessary sediment trap:

  • As part of the ephemeral wetland development for Blackburn Creeklands, a sedimentation basin will be constructed to the South East of Laurel Grove North.
  • This basin is designed to capture all the coarse sediment and pollutants which wash off Laurel Grove North and Linum Street.  This captures much of the heavy metals and other pollutants which wash off the road.
  • To allow for the construction of the sedimentation basin, three Mahogany Gums (non-indigenous Eucalypts) and one Poplar will be required to be removed.
  • The tree removals were undertaken on  25th February, 2020.
