Our plan for Thursday morning of 12th October is to do a little more weeding out KP-9 below Waratah Crescent amd mulching the exposed bed towards the western end. There’s about 2.5m3 of mulch there already – we’re hoping for 5m3. Nicky and I have collected the materials for the sheet mulching underneath.

Conditions (Last updated 06:55 12/10)
- Rain: There’s a 70% chance of rain while we are working.
- Storms: Thunderstorms are possible all day on Thursday from 11AM to 2PM- we won’t work if there’s an electrical storm or in high winds.
- Wind: Low/Medium strength WSW winds while we work.
- Temperature: It should be a mild 16 degrees when we start cooling off to 10 degrees while we work – but may feel a bit cooler due to the winds. Excellent for heavy mulching work!
- UV: The sky should be cloudy – but the UV potentially ranging up to a possible 4 or 5 means we need our sun protection.
- EPA Air Quality: Good.
- Warnings: There is a warning for damaging wind gusts developing about elevated terrain from early Thursday. We are not affected as things stand – and the wind direction seems to have changed already for us.
Risks to highlight
- Bring water to maintain your hydration.
- Mozzies are about in shaded spots and still- ish air – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended especially near the east-west track. Take care when crossing the path to dump weeds etc.
- There are stumps, branches, lumps etc that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards under twiggy shrubs etc. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- COVID, flu and RSV are still around. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms.
- We have a bull-ant incidents in KP-9 last week – Kath was bitten. That area will be closed for work.
Work Times
We work from 08:30-11:30 but shorter contributions are most welcome. We usually break for morning tea at about 10:00. Note that morning tea is self-catered, ie BYO. However, some team members might contribute home-cooked delicacies from time to time…
I have to leave on-time to make a dental appointment so will need to pack up at 11:30.
Parking
There should be parking nearby at the end of Waratah Crescent.
Notification
Please let us know if you are planning to come. This helps us organise our supplies and ensures you will be notified of cancellation or other changes eg due to an extreme weather event.
Apologies
Mark W, Ruby and Megan are unavailable this week. Kath has returned to full-time employment.
