Thursday Team – Plan for 30/11/2023

The plan for Thursday, 30th November, is to do some more maintenance weeding in Kalang Park towards the Pakenham Street end from the point where the creek is closest to the creek back to the Noticeboard area and Pakenham Street itself – and also along the opposite side of the track on the car park boundary in KP-24 assuming we have the resources. We can do some leaf mulching as needed.

Our camp will be near the seat at the purple X.

Megan will lead the event with Graeme in charge of tool transport.

Last Week

Last week we did some maintenance weeding in KP-17 and KP-24 just to the east of Thursday’s plot – and we were rewarded with Buff-banded Rail sightings! We also welcomed new starter Jane who proved immediately useful as a hand-weeder.

We got a lot done and have really tidied up the new plantings in KP-24. We’ve had some much needed rain since to make the weeding easier – and more important!

Conditions (last updated 18:00 29/11/2023)

Weather

Rain: There’s a 20% diminishing to 10% chance of rain while we are working.
Storms/Weather warnings: Nothing that affects Blackburn.
Wind: medium strength SSE winds are expected.
Temperature: It should be a mild 14-17 degrees while we work.
UV: >7 rising to 9 later in the day.
EPA Air Quality: Good.
Thunderstorm Asthma Forecast: Minor risk.

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • Mozzies are about in shaded spots and still-ish air – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
  • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended especially near the Garie Street road access to the car-park. Please take care when on the path to dump weeds etc.
  • There are stumps, branches, lumps etc that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards under twiggy shrubs etc. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • COVID, flu and RSV are still around – in fact, COVID cases have risen markedly. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms.
  • No recent bull-ant incidents – but please be vigilant…..

Apologies: John, Nicky, Peter, Andy (only if raining)
