Thursday Team – Plan for 11/1/2024

For the 11/1/2024 working bee, we are returning to FP-14 – the site of the 2023 National Tree Day plantings in one of Community Working Bees. We’ve also planted some sedges there more recently to stabilise around/exploit the drain outlets.

Even though this is not one of our zones (it’s a Council zone), we have effectively taken it over because we promised to look after the new plantings there. Needless to say, weeds have returned – and are loving the recent rain…

Last Week

Last week, we worked nearby Thursday’s planned site – but on the other side of Gardenia Street. We did a great job there on that prickly customer! It was also nice meeting and working with Greg – the neighbour – he’s still working and Thursdays are problematic – but things may change in six months which would be great for us!

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration – especially given the warmer weather.
  • Don’t forget your sun protection (especially for the next few months!).
  • Mozzies are about in shaded spots and still-ish air – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
  • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended.
  • There are stumps, branches, lumps and underground water courses etc that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards under twiggy shrubs etc. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • COVID (especially), flu and RSV are still aroundPlease don’t come if you have any symptoms.
  • No bull-ants recorded in this area – but please be extra vigilant.

Apologies: Graeme, Ruby, Andy
