The plan for 25/1/2024 is to tackle hand-weeding maintenance alongside the northern track leading from the Main Street bridge to Gardenia Street (FP-15). Depending on time/resources, we’ll do a bit more weeding in the northern bed nearby (FP-14) at its eastern end:

I noticed we seem to have had another bad batch of mulch which has taken some time to show up:

Quite a few clumps coming up. It rather looks like a grape leaf – but no time to investigate further. Will have a closer look on Thursday.
Otherwise a general weed is needed – special attention to Prickly Lettuce infestation at the southern end and a Wandering Trad invasion at the northern end (coming up from the creek banks).
Last Week
Megan and Graeme led the team in tackling maintenance weeding in The Billabong area. Graeme had some special fun with the Pandora vine there!

Risks to highlight
- Please bring water to maintain your hydration – especially given the warmer weather.
- Don’t forget your sun protection (especially for the next few months!). We have some in the PPE kit if you forget.
- Mozzies are about in shaded spots and still-ish air – plenty around due to recent rain and water sitting (eg in the Billabong) – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available in the PPE bag.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – especially along the main track.
- There are stumps, branches, lumps and underground water courses etc that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards under twiggy shrubs etc. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- COVID is around again in a big way. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms.
- No bull-ants recorded in this area – but please be extra vigilant given the warmer temperatures.
- Beware of the creek banks – quite steep and high where we will be working.
Apologies: Graeme.
