Thursday Team Plan – 29/2/2024

We’re off to the top NE corner of Furness Park  this week (FP-11) – fingers crossed! Last week’s mission had to be postponed due to a total fire ban. We’ll work 08:30 – 11:30 or any time between.

Although 28/2 is also a day of Total Fire Ban, a change is expected overnight bringing cooler and calmer conditions.

We weeded there not so long ago – but the January rains have encouraged another batch of weeds to spring up – would be nice to break that cycle.

Thursday will be warm and we should have returned to normal summer weather after a bit of a mad Wednesday. We’ll start work in the more exposed areas while it’s still cool and then retreat to shadier parts of the site.

Last Working Bee

Last week, our working bee was cancelled due to a Total Fire Ban.

The prior week, we got some great work done in Kalang Park while impressing the Melbourne Water representative evaluating our grant application. Well done everyone!

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration – especially given the predicted heat.
  • Don’t forget your sun protection (especially for the next few months!). We have some in the PPE kit if you forget.
  • Mozzies are about in shaded spots and still-ish air – plenty around due to recent rain – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available in the PPE bag.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
  • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – especially along the main track. Be extra careful when crossing the track – bike riders may not be able stop so well coming down the steep section.
  • There are stumps, branches, lumps and bumps etc that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards under twiggy shrubs etc. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • COVID is still around Please don’t come if you have any COVID symptoms.
  • Bull-ant bites have not been recorded in the area – though please be vigilant nevertheless.
