The plan for this coming Thursday morning is to revisit KP-9 (below Waratah Cres) for a general weed and some mulching experiments. There’s some general weeding to do there (including Couch) and, assuming we have time + person-power, we’ll roll back another metre of Wandering Trad.
We also need to have a look at how our mulch treatment is working there – particularly to see how water penetration is working. If it’s OK, we might drag the current mulching to cover the new exposed area and see what happens…

We’ll set up camp near the red X.
There’s usually some parking available at the end of Waratah Cres.
Last Working Bee
Last week, we covered a lot of ground weeding BW-35 (on the northern side of the Blacks Walk bridge), and then moving into BW-27 and BW-33 in Blacks Walk. We didn’t get all the way to the northern end – so next time there, we should start at the northern end and weed southwards.
Next week is Anzac Day and we’ll not work. The week after, I may still be in recovery mode after some dental/sinus work. If that is the case, I’ll leave you to the tender mercies of Megan and Graeme instead.
Conditions
(last updated 07:15 18/4/2024)
We’ve had even more great rain over the past few days to completely soften up our weeds !
Rain: There’s a 20% chance of rain dropping to 10% by 10:00 – so a smart precaution would be to bring wet weather gear just in case.
Storms/Weather warnings: None that affect us.
Temperature: It should be a mild 12-15 degrees while we work.
Heatwave: None.
Wind: mild strength W and WSW winds picking up a little later in the morning are expected.
UV: It will be overcast with UV rating of 3 if the sun ever gets through.
EPA Air Quality: TBA.
Risks to highlight
- Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
- Mozzies are about in shaded spots and still-ish air – plenty around due to recent rain – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available in the PPE bag.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended even though there’s not heavy traffic at that site.
- There are stumps, branches, lumps and bumps etc that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards under twiggy shrubs etc. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- COVID etc are still around. Please don’t come if you have any COVID symptoms.
- Bull-ant bites have been recorded in the area – please be vigilant! We’ll mark off the danger zone as part of our site prep.
