Thursday Team Plan for 23/5/2024

This working bee will be weeding-only with the main focus on KP-8.

Our plan is to have the KP-8 bed available for in-fill planting should too many people show up for Megan’s Community Working Bee on 2/6 in the nearby KP-3.  There are already some young plants there so we’ll aim to weed around them so that they are obvious as well as do a general weed. If we do go that way on the CWB, we’ll probably have to mark the plants to further defend against Size-9 predation.

If we have the resources, we’ll also visit our regular bed in KP-5 as well.

There’s usually some parking available at the park ends of both Laurel Grove North and South.

Last Working Bee

Last week we enjoyed doing our first batch of in-fill planting along with our usual weeding etc in Furness Park (FP-11). Julie wins the DSO (Distinguished Service Order) for producing brownies when not even working with us… We put about 50 plants in to plug gaps

Anyway, this week we’re resisting the urge to permanently weed in Furness close to Julie’s kitchen and we won’t be planting (hopefully next week).

Conditions

(last updated 07:00 23/5/2024)

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • A few mozzies are about in shaded spots and still-ish air – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available in the PPE bag.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
  • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – bike riders on the main track may be travelling at speed. Be extra careful when on or crossing the track.
  • There are stumps, branches, holes, lumps and bumps etc that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards under twiggy shrubs etc. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • COVID etc are still around Please don’t come if you have any COVID or flu symptoms.
  • No bull-ant bites have been recorded in the area recently- but please be vigilant – they have been there towards the back of KP-8!

Any problems – contact John on 0411 14 2731.
