Last week at KP-9, we gave the main bed a good weed and rolled back some trad behind it. We’ve decided to sheet mulch there – Council has agreed to supply 2.5m3 of mulch before Thursday’s working bee (already in place).
There’s also still some weeding to do at the eastern end – but not where Andy stirred up the bullies – they’re probably still looking for him! We’ll leaf mulch any bare areas.
The working bee runs from 08:30 – 11:30 (08:00 – 12:00 with set-up and pack-up).
We’ll meet at the red X below:

There’s usually some car parking available in Waratah Crescent.
Last Working Bee
We had a good session – the bed along the track on the western end was weeded out and leaf-mulched as planned – except where interrupted by the bull-ants. A small amount of in-fill plants (~20 plants) were also put in.
We also continued our gradual process of rolling back the Wandering Trad there. Some regrowth and Angled Onion infestation had occurred in our last area cleared – so we weeded it out and think it is now ready for wood chip mulching for further rehabilitation.
Andy disturbed a bull-ant nest in the vicinity of prior bull-ant discoveries and the ants swarmed out despite the cold weather. So – they are definitely a risk…

Risks to highlight
- Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
- A few mozzies are about in shaded spots and still-ish air – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available in the PPE bag.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – bike riders are also taking the north track following the Council pruning.
- There are branches/logs/holes hidden in the trad presenting trip hazards – go slowly !
- There are a few trenches and twiggy plants etc to weed under that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- COVID etc are still around. Please don’t come if you have any COVID or flu symptoms.
- Bull-ants are active in the area – very much worth being vigilant!
- Working with mulch can be haradous due to dust and or fungal/mould spores. Wear a mask – especially if you notice dust/”smoke”.
- Take care when crossing the track with mulch – the track tends not to be that busy – however, cyclists are now tending to taking the track once it was opened up by Council.
- Gloves are recommended for handling cardboard due to the possible presence of staples.
