On Thursday 22/8, we’ll be hand-weeding in KP-24 – the usual suspects, Fumitory, Panic Veldt etc.

Karen from Council has kindly offered to spray out the more feral parts of the site soon – in return, I offered our services to hand weed the northern part of the site around the good plants there – to save her time. She would therefore have spare time freed up to clean up any bad part of the site there too.
There should be plenty of parking available in the carpark adjacent the Bowls Club (and adjacent the work site) – avoiding the mad school rush at 09:00 +/- 10 minutes.
Last Working Bee
On last Thursday (15/8), we sheet mulched in the north-east quadrant of the bed adjacent to the Garie Street playground in Blacks Walk. We had a bit too much mulch delivered – so topped up other parts of the site with the excess. We were down a little on our mulch moving specialist team members being available – well done to Peter and Graeme for putting in a little overtime to get the job done with John.
Of course, being in a position of bargaining power, they successfully negotiated QUAD rates for the O/T… Sad to say 4×0=0 – oh well….
Conditions
(last updated 06:40 22/8/2024)
Rain: It will be partly sunny with a 20% chance of rain this coming Thursday morning. Wet weather gear is therefore recommended purely as a precaution…
Storms/Weather warnings: Nothing to affect us.
Temperature: It should be a mild 11-15 degrees while we work. The “feels like” will be a couple of degrees lower though – so bordering on the coolish.
Wind: mild strength NW winds are expected (we’ll be a bit sheltered from them though).
UV: the cloud cover should make us immune unless sun gets thru (in that case, 2)!
EPA Air Quality: Good.
Risks to highlight
- Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – especially as we’ll be working off the main track which carries a lot of cyclists.
- There are a few stumps, branches, straggly vines etc that may present trip hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
- COVID, flu and RSV are still around again in a fairly big way it seems. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
- Bull-ant bites have not been recorded there – please be vigilant in any case.
