Thursday Team Plan for 12/9/2024

This week, we are back to the Billabong with two primary targets – Angled Onion in the area around the secondary pond (red X) and fumitory along the track – especially on the southern side (purple X).

There should be plenty of parking available in the carpark adjacent at the end of Malcolm Street and adjacent the Bowls Club – avoiding the mad school rush at 09:00 +/- 10 minutes.

Last Working Bee

On last Thursday (29/8), we more-or-less finished out the central section of KP-24 (east) and have handed it over to Karen for the next stage. She seemed quite pleased with our doughnuts and other weeding and our saving off of the young grasses we found replicating in the middle area.

Somehow we dodged the rain, medium strength northerlies and air pollution! The Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS did not embrace us as well. We also missed the electricals: we had thunderclaps at 07:00 and 12:30 – well outside our operational times.

Conditions

(last updated 06:40 12/9/2024)

Rain:  There’s a 5% chance of rain dropping to 0% during our working bee.

Storms/Weather warnings: Nothing that affects us.

Temperature: It should be a mild 9-14 degrees while we work though the “feels like” will be 3 degrees lower.

Wind:  light SSE winds becoming southerlies are expected.
UV:  if the sun gets thru, 4 – so starting to be something to protect yourself from.
EPA Air Quality: Good

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
    • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – especially as we’ll be working off the main track which carries a lot of cyclists AND the track near the Billabong has some blind spots.
  • There are a few stumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
  • COVID, flu and RSV are still around again in a fairly big way it seems Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
  • Bull-ant bites have not been recorded there – please be vigilant in any case.
