Thursday Team Plan for 19/9/2024

This week, we are back to the Billabong with one primary target – Angled Onion in the area around the secondary pond (red X) where it is launching a take-over bid and which we didn’t quite reach last week. We’ll set up camp at the pink X. We’ll also do some in-fill planting where opportunities arise.

There should be plenty of parking available in the carpark adjacent at the end of Malcolm Street and adjacent the Bowls Club – avoiding the mad school rush at 09:00 +/- 10 minutes in the case of the latter.

Last Working Bee

On last Thursday (12/9), we got stuck into the western end of the Billabong precinct revealing quite a lot of good news under the Fumitory. Megan has identified some opportunities for in-fill planting which we may address this week subject to plant availability.

Conditions

(last updated 06:30 19/9/2024)

Rain:  There’s a 40% chance of rain when we start, diminishing to 20% by 10:00 – so we’d better bring our raincoats just in case!

Storms/Weather warnings: Nothing for us!

Temperature: It should be a cool-mild 10-13 degrees while we work though the “feels like” will be 2-5 degrees lower – especially as the wind picks up as the morning progresses.

Wind:  mild-medium strength WNW winds becoming stronger later in the morning.
UV:  if the sun gets thru, 4 – so starting to be something to protect yourself from.
EPA Air Quality: Good.

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
    • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – especially as we’ll be working off the main track which carries a lot of cyclists AND the track near the Billabong has some blind spots.
  • There are a few stumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
  • COVID, flu and RSV are still around again in a fairly big way it seems Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
  • Bull-ant bites have been recorded around a log on the eastern side of the northern pond area near the track – please be vigilant.
