The northern end of FP-14 was chosen by us as the National Tree Day planting site for 2023. Council were not happy with that at the time because the site was not fully prepared – we bravely said we’d look after it while the young plants got established.
We’ve been there four times this year – and still the weeds keep coming! This is testament to the ideal growing conditions for weeds since mid May and the weed-seed bank in the soil. Last time, we visited the NW corner – and probably didn’t get into all of the east. This time, we’ll start at the eastern end of the NTD area and move west.
There should be plenty of parking available in Gardenia Street.
Last Working Bee
On last Thursday (26/9), we made good inroads into the Fumitory/Panic Veldt in KP-8 from the western end. We need to get back there and continue on to the eastern side soon.

Temperature: It should be a warm 13-22 degrees while we work though the “feels like” only 1 or 2 degrees lower. Good thing there’s plenty of shade there!
Wind: mild NE and NNE winds are predicted – we won’t feel much of them!
UV: will get up to 5 – so please remember your sun protection.
EPA Air Quality: Good.
Risks to highlight
- Please bring water to maintain your hydration – our first warm day for quite a while!
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended.
- There are a few stumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
- COVID, flu and RSV are still around again in a fairly big way it seems. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
- Bull-ant bites have not been recorded there, but please be vigilant.
