Thursday Team Plan for 10/10/2024

This week, we are back to Kalang to continue working at the site we attacked the Fumitory at a fortnight ago. This week, Panic Veldt becomes the numero uno target – it’s starting to seed so we have to act quickly! We’ll set up camp at the pink X. Provided we have the numbers, we will also send a delegation across the bridge to tackle an upsurge of Ash seedlings (red X) on Delldint’s advice – something we couldn’t do on last visit.

There should be plenty of parking available in the carpark adjacent at the end of Sheehans Road or Laurel Grove South.

Last Working Bee

On last Thursday (3/10), we had a great working bee tackling the eastern end of the National Tree Day bed in the top NW corner of Furness in rather warm conditions. It was great that new members Cath and Greg could join us.

Conditions

(last updated 06:25 10/10/2024)

A partly cloudy morning is expected.

Rain:  There’s a 5% chance of rain when we start, rising to 10% by 11:00.
Storms/Weather warnings: there is a Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS to the north of us – something to watch as the morning unfolds.
Temperature: It should be a mild 14-19 degrees while we work though the “feels like” will be a few degrees cooler.

Wind:  medium strength N winds turning WNW over the duration of the session – we should be sheltered from most of the north winds.
UV:  when the sun gets thru, up to 5 – so please consider your sun protection.
EPA Air Quality: Good.

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
    • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – especially as we’ll be working off the main track which carries a lot of cyclists. Please be extra careful crossing the track with your weed buckets.
  • There are a few stumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
  • COVID, flu and RSV are still around again in a fairly big way it seems Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
  • Bull-ant bites have been recorded around a log on the north-eastern side towards the back of the main bed – no activity noticed in recent years, but please be vigilant.
