Thursday Team Plan for 31/10/2024

This week, we are back to Kalang Park KP-5 (the bed we’ve been looking after on the south side of the creek between Laurel Grove and Main Street). We will be targeting flowering weeds, Fumitory and more emerging Great (rip-gut) Brome as priorities. Closest parking available would be at the end of Laurel Grove (either side).

Last Working Bee

On last Thursday (24/10), we had a go at similar weeds (especially the Brome) along the south track north of the oval in Kalang Park (KP-17).

We had a great turn-out and welcomed Kai as a new starter. We got a lot done – but still more to go in another visit.

During the week, we’ve moved into our extended cage at the Pavilion:

Conditions

(last updated 06:20 31/10/2024)

A cloudy morning with the possibility of rain is expected.

Rain:  There’s a 30% chance of rain when we’ll be working. Might be wise to bring a raincoat – just-in-case.
Storms/Weather warnings: None for our location.
Temperature: It should be a mild 12-17 degrees while we work though the strengthening SW wind will make it seem a few degrees cooler towards the end of our session.

Thunderstorm Asthma: Low risk.

Wind:  mild strength WSW winds becoming SW strengthening later in the morning to medium strength.
UV:  If the sun gets thru up to 6 or 7 – so please consider your sun protection. Cloud cover will be about 67% while we work.
EPA Air Quality: Good.

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • The epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast will operate during grass pollen season (01 October to 31 December).
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
    • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – especially as we’ll be working off the main track which carries a lot of cyclists.
  • There are a few stumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
  • COVID, flu and RSV are still around. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
  • No bull-ant activity is on record here – but please be vigilant – especially given that the weather is warming up.
