Thursday Team Plan for 7/11/2024

This week, we are weeding in Blacks Walk in BW-27 and BW-35 – we’ll start at the northern end and move southwards hopefully reaching BW-35 and we’ll tackle that too. We will be targeting flowering weeds in the area and protecting the more recent plantings.   Queen Anne’s Lace has made a reappearance there. Should be plenty of parking adjacent BW-31.

Last Working Bee

On last Thursday (31/10), we got a lot done in our “project” bed in KP-5. Some great plants in there now kicking on well and tending to make weeding easier. Not quite completely weeded – but way up there. Next time, we’ll start on the eastern end and move west.

Conditions

(last updated 06:30 7/11/2024)

There is the possibility of rain from 08:00, clearing by 11:00 and then resuming after 2:00PM.

Rain:  There’s a 10% chance of rain dropping to 5% when we’ll be working.
Storms/Weather warnings: Nothing that affects us.
Temperature: It should be a mild 14-18 degrees while we work.

Thunderstorm Asthma: Low. Although the pollen count is becoming high, the storms will pass overnight. The risk was “moderate” on 6/11.

Wind:  mild strength SSW/ SW winds as our work period progresses.
UV:  When the sun gets thru, up to 7, so please consider your sun protection. Cloud cover will be about 75% dropping to 60% while we work.
EPA Air Quality: Good.

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • The epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast will operate during grass pollen season (01 October to 31 December).
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
    • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended.
  • There are a few stumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
  • COVID, flu and RSV are still around. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
  • No bull-ant activity is on record here – but please be vigilant – especially given that the weather is warming up. There was a European Wasp nest where Blackburn Creek goes underground – will recheck that today.
