Thursday Team Plan for 21/11/2024

This week, we will spend one more work day in Blacks Walk – in BW-7, BW-6 and BW-1.  The BW-1 work would be to pull out any weeds appearing in the new planting only.   BW-7 is quite weedy so we may not get through that and then onto BW-6 unless we get a good turn-out (like last week!). BW-1 is the new bed in front of the Scout Hall we planted up on National Tree Day. BW-6 does have a storm-damaged Blackwood we should fix up – but we might leave the downed stag in BW-7 for another day!

Meet at the red X:

Last Working Bee

On last Thursday (14/11), we had a great turn-out enabling most of BW-27 to be sorted – including recovery of lots of young seedlings where the Gosford Wattle came down and some serious weed infestations dealt with. BW-33 was also done and BW-35 partly done. Another badly damaged tree nearby was reported to Council.

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • The first heatwave warning for the season has been issued – for the 3 days starting Thursday 21st November 2024 as noted above.
  • The epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast will operate during grass pollen season (01 October to 31 December).
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
    • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended.
  • There are a few stumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
  • COVID, flu and RSV are still around. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
  • Despite no bull-ant activity being on record in these locations, please be vigilant – especially given that the weather is warming up ….
