Thursday Team 20/2/2025

For Thursday 20/2, we’ll do a maintenance weed in Kalang Park’s KP-8. Recent high winds have brought down some branches in the zone eg covering our nice Dichondra patch – so we’ll clean them up first to save our plants and improve site safety. Cassie has supplied us with some pouches for our evaluation and a couple more snippers. We need to get the number of secateurs we need to her ASAP. Please, let’s discuss at the working bee…

Last Working Bee

Last week was a day off due to the Total Fire Ban. The week before, we finished up at FP-15 having made quite an impact. Lots of hands make light work!

Karen has advised that she has sprayed the Kikuyu, Couch and flat weed at the southern end of the track at FP-15 – we’ll look at a bit of a plant-up there in due course when we are on site.

There were another four dumpings of material between the last two working bees at FP-15. Action is being taken through Local Laws – let’s hope this becomes a thing of the past once the new owners move in. It is possible that some of the dumpers are from elsewhere though…

Cath managed to run her first direct sowing trial – of Lomandra seed at the northern end of our work site. It will be interesting to see how things go…

Risks to highlight

Bull-ants have been recorded at the site – so please watch out! ….. We’ll fence off the problem area.

  • Please bring lots of water to maintain your hydration.
  • Hi-vis PPE is recommended due to our working on the main east-west track.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
  • There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Please be mindful of the creek bank too – there are sudden drops on the western side.
  • Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
  • COVID and flu might STILL be around. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
