For Thursday 13/3, we’ll be back in Kalang Park’s KP-17 moving eastwards from where we left off the week before last. This will involve a maintenance weed there with Panic Veldt needing the seed snip and cut-out process we’ve been doing. There are other weeds in there of course – including a dreaded Moth Vine (I think). See below – the top is out of shot – a long stem looking like a tendril wanting to hang on and climb a neighbour:
Meet at the red-X – parking adj the Bowls Club and limited parking in Kalang Oval car-park:

There’s a couple more patches of Panic Veldt near the NoticeBoard if we do get lucky with another cast of thousands (red dots).
Last Working Bee
The stars aligned for a world-record turnout for the Thursday Team (16!) last week resulted in a huge amount of Wandering Trad clearance above the creekbank west of the Waratah Wetland. After we get some decent rain, we’ll be back there to sheet mulch.
Its unlikely we’ll have a similar turn-out this week – some folks are going to be away / unavailable.
It was great to have Kath returning to work with us after 18 months away on more lucrative endeavours – thereby completing the Team Brett for the day. Louis also joined us – he is doing a conservation course at RMIT at present and needs to participate in different volunteer working bee groups as a course requirement. He proved very useful in our activities – being stronger and younger than most of us – so would be very welcome back!

Risks to highlight
- Even though we’ve arranged cooler weather, please bring lots of water to maintain your hydration.
- Trees have been dropping branches locally – seemingly more often than usual. Low winds today but be aware of your exposure.
- Hi-vis PPE is strongly recommended due to our working on the main east-west track.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes. More hats are on order for those wanting a Council hat.
- There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- Please be mindful of the creek bank too – there are some sudden drops.
- Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
- COVID and flu might STILL be around – a lot of masks in the shops recently despite the heat. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
