For Thursday 27/3, we shall waltz back to the Billabong. The usual suspects there are involved – Panic Veldt, European Black Nightshade, Buttercup, Drain Sedge etc – but especially Couch. The latter is almost impossible to weed out once it becomes entrenched. There are three significant patches – either side of the path in the middle area and another at the inlet from the stormwater system. We will have a go at the latter because it will be growing in soft silt – but the other two will need chemical treatment. It is a summer grass – thriving now – so the ideal time to give it a drink of something nasty before it becomes dormant. We’ll mark the good plants and then weed around them as best we can – for Karen to come in later. There is also a hill full of Panic Veldt if we run our of the useful things to go. Hats and extra tools have been promised for next week… Meet at the red-X:

Last Working Bee
We had a great day in Blacks Walk last week. Despite several of our regulars being away, a good turn-out of 12 people allowed BW-6, 7, 1 & KP-17 (western end) to be weeded as planned. In addition, a fairly small amount of BW-36 adjacent BW-7 was weeded to deter weeds there spreading back into the newly weeded BW-7.
A great effort from all present!

Risks to highlight
- Always good to bring water to maintain your hydration.
- Trees have been dropping branches locally – seemingly more often than usual. Keep an eye out for potential risks.
- Hi-vis PPE is strongly recommended – we’ll be working along the main track.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes. More hats are on order for those wanting a Council hat (fingers crossed, arriving next week).
- There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- Cyclists and scooter riders have restricted vision in our work area – please be careful around the track – particularly at the western end.
- Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
- COVID and flu might STILL be around – a lot of masks in the shops recently. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
