For Thursday 17/4, we shall be back in Blacks Walk again – aiming to weed out the small bed BW-33 – then do the priority work in BW-27 while keeping out of the sun. We’ll meet near BW-33 on the map below (same spot as last week).

Last Working Bee
We’ve completed what we could in BW-35 (excepting around the bull-ant nest Tom discovered without being stung!
We also worked on parts on BW-27 here and there (eg Kath did a great job in and around the foreign Allocasuarina forest). More needs to be done at he northern end (not much) and in the central part which must have been missed in our last session there.
There’ll be more people off this week with the school holidays taking some of our grandparents out.
Great to have Anne Bennett back for the week – but on the other side of the ledger, Maddie now has a class on Thursday mornings despite her efforts to keep the morning clear.
Conditions
(last updated 06:05 17/4/2025 – cloud data unavailable – this morning’s shown)
Thursday morning should be mostly sunny with only a small chance of rain during our session. We’ll tackle the sites exposed to the sun first…
Rain: The probability of rain is 5% early and zero after 10:00.
Storms/Weather warnings: None.
Temperature: It should be a mild-to-warm 15-25 degrees while we work.
Heatwave warnings: None.
Wind: mild strength ENE becoming NE winds while we work.
UV: up to 3+ while we work, so sun protection is a still needed. SunSmart recommends protection from 10:00 onwards.
Cloud cover: is predicted to be about 1% this morning.
EPA Air Quality: GOOD.
Risks to highlight
- Always good to bring water to maintain your hydration.
- We have had bullant stings in the area of BW-27 adjacent BW-33. Best NOT to work on the ground in that area. One person was stung by two ants – but no nest located. Tom did discover a nest further south towards the bridge.
- Trees have been dropping branches locally – seemingly more often than usual. Keep an eye out for potential risks.
- Hi-vis PPE is recommended – we’ll be quite spread out.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes. The promised HATS HAVE NOW SHOWED UP !
- There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work! We’ll may have a couple of weed drops for Council pick-ups.
- COVID and flu might STILL be around – a lot of masks in the shops recently. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
