Fresh from our workshop with George Paras, we’ll dive straight in to one of the reveg tasks he recommended – hand weeding small patches of Couch, Oxalis, Cleavers, Ivy, emergent Angled Onions etc in the KP-20 project area. This will be delicate “mindful” weeding aiming to minimize disturbance.
We’ll also redeploy some logs to signal the mower man and walkers not to re-enter the area – ahead of “Reveg Area” signage going up. Excepting along the track and in the NW corner of the bed, this area has not been worked on by us in living memory! The primary area of concern is the red-hatched zone below – we’ll venture into the other side of KP-20 if time and resources permit.

We’ll meet at the X on the map above – more or less in the middle of zone KP-20.
Last Working Bee
Last week was the training workshop.
The week before, we returned to KP-3 in Kalang Park at the foot of Laurel Grove North working eastwards. The western and eastern ends of the bed just needed a maintenance weed – while the central parts were overdue for weeding – and great work was done restoring order there!

EPA Air Quality: Good.
Risks to highlight
- Always good to bring water to maintain your hydration.
- This is a new area for us so there’s no bull-ant history – so far! There’s a lot of dead grass around which could be disguising not-only bull-ants but other hazards like glass etc. Please keep alert to any possibility !
- Trees have been dropping branches locally – seemingly more often than usual. Keep an eye out for potential risks. There is one old stag that used to host a beehive. They may have moved out of caution – we’ll keep a wide berth of that one…
- Hi-vis PPE is recommended given the popularity of that track with other park users.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- There are a few bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards – especially if crawling under/around. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work! We may have a couple of weed drops for Council pick-up.
- COVID and flu might STILL be around – around the pre-polling station recently. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
