Megan is very happy for the Thursday crew to dig holes and water again (if needed – almost certainly) ahead of Sunday’s Community Working Bee at the red X. There is also plenty of weeding to do in that area (including BW-33 and BW-35) for those who’d rather weed.

Last Working Bee
Last week we had a great day weeding KP-5 with some threats in KP-8 (especially Kikuyu) also dealt with. The target bed within KP-5 got a good maintenance weed. Plants seem to be doing quite well there excepting a Spyridium rife with borer and a couple of Christmas Bushes that seem to have succumbed to the drought conditions.
A great day’s work – good numbers and good conditions for weeding!
Conditions
(last updated 06:55 26/6/2025)
Thursday should be mostly cloudy with the possibility of rain while we work.
Rain: There is a 10% chance of rain while we are working.
Storms/Weather warnings: Frosts with temperatures down to -2 degrees are forecast for Thursday morning in parts of our forecast districts. I don’t think that would include us with our cloud and wind. 5 degrees right now…
Temperature: It should be a COLD 6-11 degrees while we work because it will “feel” 2-3 degrees cooler. Continuing to sound like a broken record, we suggest you dress for warmth such that you can peel off a layer as you warm up.
Wind: low strength WNW/NW/WNW eventually becoming freshening SW winds later in the day.
UV: up to 1 while we work – SunSmart no longer recommends sun protection…
Cloud cover: is predicted to be 79% dropping a little to 73% while we work.
EPA Air Quality: Good.
Risks to highlight
- Bull-ant stings have been recorded in BW-27 (further north), so please be very vigilant. We have also disturbed Inch Ants in the north eastern corner of BW-35 (possibly really BW-34) so will avoid working there.
- Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
- Wear appropriate warm clothes for the conditions – a hat (beanie or shapka), long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- Be careful near the northern edge of the CWB area – there is a sudden and significant drop to the creek below the creekbank. Those setting up the pump should also be careful when positioning and withdrawing the pump.
- There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards in some parts. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- COVID, RSV and flu infections are STILL around and the #cases is rising. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
