Thursday Team 3/7/2025

The plan for tomorrow was to QA the recent CWB work and maybe do some additional watering (!).  Normally that would be done of the day – but some of us had to leave early so as to participate in the Clean Waterways Expo 2025 at Blackburn Lake… We would also like to continue weeding along the path nearby and give further attention to weeding BW-33 and BW-35 – as well as the rear of the BW-27 area – which we also planted into. Some stakes or relocations are going to needed there because some plants have ended up on the informal track there…

Unbelievably in the meantime, the SRLA offsets team has planted half a dozen trees in our CWB area !!!! It looks like they were careful – but we may need to move some plants.

Last Working Bee

Last week we had a great day prepping the Community Working Bee area – digging the holes and weeding.

A great day’s work – good numbers and good conditions for weeding!

Conditions

(last updated 06:30 3/7/2025)

Thursday should be mostly partly cloudy with the possibility of rain while we work.

Rain:  There is a 30% chance of rain falling to 20% while we are working. Wet weather gear is advised as a precaution.
Storms/Weather warnings: nothing that affects us.
Temperature: It should be a cool 9-12 degrees while we work because it will “feel” 1-2 degrees cooler. Continuing to sound like a broken record, we suggest you dress for warmth such that you can peel off a layer as you warm up.

Wind:  low strength SSW winds.
UV:  up to 1 while we work – SunSmart no longer recommends sun protection…

Cloud cover: is predicted to be 74% dropping to 64% while we work.
EPA Air Quality: Consistently Good for the last 48 hrs.

Risks to highlight

  • Bull-ant stings have been recorded in BW-27 (further north), so please be very vigilant. We have also disturbed Inch Ants in the north eastern corner of BW-35 (possibly really BW-34) so will avoid working there.
  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • Wear appropriate warm clothes for the conditions – a hat (beanie or shapka), long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
  • Be careful near the northern edge of the CWB area – there is a sudden and significant drop to the creek below the creekbank. Those setting up the pump should also be careful when positioning and withdrawing the pump.
  • There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards in some parts. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Creek banks in the area are steep, deep and slippery. The creek is likely to be fast-flowing. Please keep away from the banks in our damp conditions.
  • COVID, RSV and flu infections are STILL around and the #cases is rising. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
