Thursday 24/7: it’s all hands on deck to help prepare for the third Community Working Bee on Sunday 27th near the Blacks Walk school gate. We’ll do some weeding, hole-digging and pre-watering ahead of the working bee. Council will assist us with powered hole augering. We will use water from the school with soil conditioner if needed. Meet at the red X:

Greg will be leading the Community Working Bee on Sunday and also tomorrow’s prep session – making sure the proposed plant layout will work and also testing our access to water etc.
Last Working Bee
We had a good day at the Billabong working on a maintenance weed – despite the fairly dire weather forecast (we had a couple of rain sprinkles only). We also welcomed Adela back to the team. However, we had a mid-winter bull-ant sting, a lucky near-miss with an eye injury (when blackberry pruning) and an unwelcome encounter with our most common bio-hazard (dog poo!). Luckily both physical injuries proved to be mild – but let’s be careful !
We’ll need another session there before handing over to Council for spraying where it is safe to do so….

Risks to highlight
- Council people/person will be using powered augers. Be careful to keep yourself safely away from them. Also, noise close to that work could potentially be a hazard.
- Note we have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you are doing work that might need them.
- Always good to bring water to maintain your hydration.
- Hi-vis PPE is strongly recommended – we’ll be working along the main track – though no school traffic.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip hazards.
- Cyclists and scooter riders have restricted vision in our work area – please be careful around the track – particularly at the western end.
- Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
- COVID, RSV and flu might STILL be around – a lot of masks in the shops recently and at least one of our crew sick from more than a week!. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
