Thursday Team 31/7/2025

For Thursday 31/7, we’re waltzing back to the Billabong doing a further stage of our work 2 weeks ago to protect good plants before we get the spraying done. There’s some fine weeding eg of buttercup to be done on the grassy N bank of the Billabong’s main pond and also in amongst the secondary pond’s Juncus. Meet at the red X:

Last Working Bee

Last week, we assisted Council’s Karen in getting the holes dug for Sunday’s very successful Community Working Bee and also sent part of our team over to BW-7 because the weeds we planned to remove had recently been sprayed by Karen.

We only got a minor sprinkle of rain as it turned out …

Risks to highlight

  • For those weeding in the pond areas or around blackberries or juncus, be very careful re eyes ! We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Bull-ants were disturbed there at last effort – so we’ll “fence” off the area.
  • Always good to bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • Trees have been dropping branches locally – seemingly more often than usual. Keep an eye out for potential risks.
  • Hi-vis PPE is strongly recommended – we’ll be working along the main track – though no school traffic.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
  • There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip hazards.
  • Cyclists and scooter riders have restricted vision in our work area – please be careful around the track – particularly at the western end.
  • Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
  • COVID, RSV and flu might STILL be around. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
