For our Thursday Team event on 7/8/2025, we have 2 options: sheet mulching (red X) and weeding (Green Xes):

For those who want to warm up with some mulch work, we are planning to add another strip to our slow march from the track down to the creek bank in KP-9 down from Waratah Cres. Mulch is hard to get at the moment – so we don’t have enough for the complete job. We are planning to request a spray on the western end instead. Nicky is keen to compare and contrast the two methods for future site preparations.
We have two weeding options – fine weeding around the Community Working Bee plants in KP-13 or Angled Onions in the plot adjacent.
Last Working Bee
Last week, we had another go at KP-18 weeding around good plants. Not as good a turn-out as usual, but lots of good work done!

Risks to highlight
- For those weeding in the pond areas or around blackberries or juncus, be very careful re eyes ! We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- Bull-ants near the track are well known – but not in our working areas.
- The track is steep in that area – tread carefully and watch your momentum – especially when carrying cardboard or barrowing mulch.
- Always good to bring water to maintain your hydration.
- Trees have been dropping branches locally – seemingly more often than usual. Keep an eye out for potential risks.
- Hi-vis PPE is strongly recommended – be seen: especially due to the nature of the mulching task.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
- There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip hazards.
- Take care when carrying full weed or mulch buckets – that can be heavy work!
- COVID, RSV and flu might STILL be around. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
