For Thursday 14/8, we’ll be back in Kalang Park’s KP-17 moving westwards from the red X. I can’t stand it any more – that Fumitory has to go! Our babies are being suffocated ! No doubt there are a few of our usual subjects under all that “smoke” – so we’ll get them as well!

Last Working Bee
Last week, we did a fantastic job finishing off the experimental “sheet mulching” in KP-9. Karen has been in already to spray out the new crop of weeds at the western end – we would have mulched that too if more mulch were to be available.
Some fine weeding was done too in KP-9. We also took the opportunity to weed the Angled Onion in the 2026 site adjacent as well as weeding around the baby plants in the nearby CWB site.

Thursday will be warm – after a quite cool and foggy start!
Rain: There is less than 5% chance of rain while we are working.
Storms/Weather warnings: There’s a frost warning active.
Temperature: It should be cold start, 5-13 degrees while we work – some removable warm layers recommended!
Wind: mild strength ENE winds turning around to NE/NNE while we work.
UV: SunSmart recommends protection from 11:20AM to 1:10PM.
Cloud cover: 20% falling to 3%.
EPA Air Quality: Good now following Fair from 11:00PM to 3:00AM.
Risks to highlight
- Please bring lots of water to maintain your hydration.
- Trees have been dropping branches locally – seemingly more often than usual. Low winds today but be aware of your exposure.
- Hi-vis PPE is strongly recommended due to our working on the main east-west track.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes. More hats are on order for those wanting a Council hat.
- There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- Please be mindful of the creek bank too – there are some sudden drops.
- Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work!
- COVID and flu might STILL be around – a lot of masks in the shops recently. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
