Thursday Team 3/4/2025

For Thursday 3/4, we shall be back in Blacks Walk.  Due to John being ill, Megan will be supervising perhaps with Graeme managing the logistics of getting tools to the site. Depending on numbers, we plan to do a maintenance weed in BW-27, BW-35 and BW-33. In BW-27 and BW-33 we need to be mobile – walking through looking for Cocksfoot grass (snipping off seed), faux Deadly Nightshade, Privet, Ivy, Panic Veldt etc. For those who would like to meet more of a challenge with fine weeding, BW-35 offers the alternative of a grasses recovery or a Dichondra delight. Meet at near the boardroom table adjacent the Blacks Walk playground – see the red-X:

Today’s bad news is this is everywhere:

Last Working Bee

Another great day last week – in the Billabong. I expect Karen to have sprayed there by now – to hit that Couch while the time is ripe (I haven’t been able to check).

Kath and Tom even had a go at the Buttercup there which is a real challenge (that they’re up to!). There’s more to do there – but we’ll keep away for a while so as not to challenge the spray’s non-residual claims….

A great effort from all present!

Conditions

(last updated 17:45 2/4/2025)

Thursday morning should be partly cloudy with the probability of rain growing as the day goes on.

Rain:  The probability of rain is 10% at 08:00 and 20% at 11:00 – so we should remain dry.
Storms/Weather warnings: None.
Temperature: It should be a mild 12-18 degrees while we work.

Heatwave warnings: None.

Wind:  mild strength W to SW winds while we work.
UV:  up to 3+ while we work, so sun protection is a still needed. SunSmart recommends protection from 10:30 onwards.

Cloud cover: is predicted to be about 50% increasing to 57% while we work.
EPA Air Quality: FAIR – due to bushfire smoke.

Risks to highlight

  • Note that air quality will only be fair tomorrow due to bushfire smoke. You should consider your own situation before deciding to work tomorrow.
  • Always good to bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • We have had bullant stings in the area of BW-27 adjacent BW-33. Best NOT to work on the ground in that area. One person was stung by two ants – but no nest located.
  • Trees have been dropping branches locally – seemingly more often than usual. Keep an eye out for potential risks.
  • Hi-vis PPE is recommended – we’ll be qute spread out.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes. More hats are on order for those wanting a Council hat (fingers crossed, arriving this week).
  • There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work! We’ll have several weed drops for Council pick-ups.
  • COVID and flu might STILL be around – a lot of masks in the shops recently. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
