For Thursday 10/4, we shall be back in Blacks Walk – aiming to complete the original plan for last week. There might be a bit more to do in BW-35 – then we’ll hit BW-27 and BW-33. We need to be mobile for the latter walking through looking for Cocksfoot grass (snipping off seed first), faux Deadly Nightshade, Privet, Ivy, Panic Veldt etc. We’ll meet near BW-33 on the map below.

Megan reported this is indeed everywhere (fumitory):

Last Working Bee
For a variety of reasons, a lot of us could not work last week. Those present focussed on BW-35 – the most weedy part of our work menu last week! A great effort from all present – thanks to those who could come along and get so much done! Special thanks to Megan for running the show and to Graeme who provided the tools transport despite being debilitated by a back/hip problem.
There’ll be more off this week with the school holidays taking some of our grandparents out.

Risks to highlight
- Always good to bring water to maintain your hydration.
- We have had bullant stings in the area of BW-27 adjacent BW-33. Best NOT to work on the ground in that area. One person was stung by two ants – but no nest located.
- Trees have been dropping branches locally – seemingly more often than usual. Keep an eye out for potential risks.
- Hi-vis PPE is recommended – we’ll be qute spread out.
- Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes. The promised HATS DID NOT SHOW UP.
- There are a few stumps, bumps, branches etc that may present trip and/or eye hazards. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
- Take care when carrying full weed buckets – that can be heavy work! We’ll have several weed drops for Council pick-ups.
- COVID and flu might STILL be around – a lot of masks in the shops recently. Please don’t come if you have any symptoms or are potentially contagious.
